గిరి తన తమ్ముడు పుట్టకముందే నాలో స్వార్థం పుట్టింది అంటాడు. నిజమేనేమో ముందు స్వార్ధం పుట్టి తర్వాత మనిషి పుట్టాడేమో. తోడబుట్టిన వాళ్ళు కూడా ఏదో విషయంలో అది అందం, ఆస్తి, హోదా, పరపతి, చదువు ఏదైన కావచ్చు. వాళ్ళు తన కంటే ఎత్తులో ఉంటే తట్టుకోలేని, ఓర్చుకోలేని మానసిక వైకల్యం చాలా ప్రమాదకరం. అది తారాస్థాయికి చేరినప్పుడు ఎదుటి వారి నాశనాన్ని కోరుకుంటుంది, చివరకు ప్రాణాలు తీయడానికి కూడ వెనుకాడదు.
అతి స్వార్దం చాలా కౄరమైంది. తనకు చెందినది వేరొకరితో పంచుకోలేని స్వార్ధం కొంత వరకు భరించొచ్చు. కాని ఎదుటివాడు నాకంటే ఓ మెట్టు ఎత్తులో ఉండకూడదు. నేనే ఉండాలి అనే స్వార్ధం మనిషిని దహించి వేస్తుంది. ఆ ఈర్ష్యగ్నిలో నీతి నియమాలు, బంధాలు అన్నీ ఆహుతైపోతాయి. గిరి లాంటి తెలివైన వాళ్ళు ఎదుటి వాడికి అందకుండా తమ పగ తీర్చుకుంటారు. కాని ఆ బాధ అనుభవించే వాళ్ళకే తెలుస్తుంది. అదే విషయాన్ని గిరి ఇలా అనుకుంటాడు.”ఎవ్వరూ గుర్తు పట్టలేనంత బలంగా ముసుగేసుకున్నా వాడు మాత్రం నా ముసుగెనక అసలు స్వరూపాన్ని గుర్తించేవాడు. అది భరించలేక ప్రతిసారి గొడవపడేవాడు. నిజాయితీ అంటే అదేనేమో! అదే వాడ్ని జనానికి తప్పుటోడుగా కనిపించేట్లు చేసేది.”
కాని వాళ్ళు ఎంత మంచి మనుషులుగా నటించినా, తన ఆత్మసాక్షికి, వాళ్ళు కట్టుకున్న వాళ్ళకు ఎతువంటి వాళ్ళో తెలిసిపోతుంది అందుకే గిరి భారయ “‘ఆఁ, ఈన మాత్రం తక్కువా? కనిపించడు కాని…’ అంటుంది. ఇక మనిషిలోని కుళ్ళు, కుతంత్రం ఎదుటి వాళ్ళు పసిగట్టకా వాళ్ళ ముందు బతకడం చాలా దుర్భరంగా ఉంటుంది.
స్వార్ధం,పెరాశ,ద్వేషం,ఈర్ష్య లాంటి విషయల్ని రచయిత్రి కథలోని పాత్రలతో వ్యక్తపరిచిన విదానం చాలా బావుంది. మనుసు లోతుల్లోని భావాల్ని పట్టుకోవడంలో రచయిత్రి దిట్ట.
ఇంత దుఃఖాన్ని ఆవేదనను ఆక్రోశాన్ని ఆగ్రహాన్ని అక్షరాల్లో పెట్టడం ఎలా సాధ్యమయిందో…

I am thrilled. Really thrilled to read Chaganti Tulasi’s ” Uhala UTa.” Before I defend myself why I was thrilled, let me say one thing.
As one who has known Chaso (Chaganti Somayajulu) and ChaTu (Chaganti Tulasi), I could have said: After all, ‘apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.’ But, that would be a cliche`. A cop out.
I am just getting back in time; a long time. If Chaso were to read the above piece; what would he say? I am sure, he would first re-light his stubby cigar, meditatively look at the swirling dense smoke, and would have said: how come I couldn’t write like her — I mean like ChaTu wrote?
Well! He didn’t. Most probably, he couldn’t have.
That was one reason I am thrilled.
The story, in my opinion, is written in the style of stream of consciousness, — clearly redefined. I know, those who are experts in googling would try to counter my assessment. Please try.
The reader gets into the character, not because of nostalgia — that would be a trite analysis — but because the apparent discontinuities in the narration continually pulls the unconsciously in! In to the wells of consciousness. No escape. And, that was not easy for any writer. Only a very few could accomplish! That’s because, the author has created her own inimitable style.
That’s another reason I am thrilled.
One tries to find some similarities in style, matter, and narrative, etc., with some well-known writers of the past. But, that exhibits the reader’s nostalgia, nothing less.
‘Bringing up the Father’ was a cute great cartoon of yore. A writer could create the most memorable narrative of all time. It was the style, more than the material. Inimitable style.
Tulasi created a narrative in her own style; one can imitate — Impossible to replicate.
Before I wind up by saying, keep it up, let me say one thing.
I am envious. Really envious.
Where were these excellent writers — narrators par excellence — when I was closely associated with eemaata?
Wow, Sujata garu! You spoke my mind. My initial idea was to do a collection of cartoons building a narrative on how many layers the crisis unfolded during second wave. But it demanded a certain calm and composure, which I couldn’t get. I’d definitely plan to do that sometime in future. As a retrospective act. For now, poetry being poetry, gave me an immediate release.
చాలా మంచి కలెక్షన్. ఇలా కార్టూన్ లు కూడా సేకరించగలిగితే చాలా బావుంటుంది. చాలా సందర్భోచితంగా వున్నాయి. కాలంతో పాటు ఆవేశాలు చల్లపడకుండా, ఈ రికార్డు లేకపోతే, ఎంతో నిర్దాక్షిణ్యంగా మర్చిపోతాం.
