In the 1840s, shortly after reading Alfred Tennyson’s poem, “The Vision of Sin,” mathematician and “father of the computer,” Charles Babbage, wrote the following letter to the poet and suggested an alteration in the name of accuracy.
Sir:
In your otherwise beautiful poem “The Vision of Sin” there is a verse which reads – “Every moment dies a man, Every moment one is born.” It must be manifest that if this were true, the population of the world would be at a standstill. In truth, the rate of birth is slightly in excess of that of death. I would suggest that in the next edition of your poem you have it read – “Every moment dies a man, Every moment 1 1/16 is born.” The actual figure is so long I cannot get it onto a line, but I believe the figure 1 1/16 will be sufficiently accurate for poetry.

అవన్నీ అయే పనులు కావు కానీ సంవత్సరానికి ఒకటో, రెండోసార్లు రాస్తునవి ఎవరో ఒకరు వేసుకుంటున్నారు చాలు.
Lyla: The verse “kausalyaa suprajaa raama” was sung by Balijepalli Lakshmikantam (a.k.a Lakshmikanta kavi), who played the role of Viswamitra in that film. Obviously I won’t tell you who he is, etc.
Regarding other songs, there is no dispute about taste. But my motivations, or selection criterion for picking them are different, not necessarily “good quality” singing. But, I would particularly disagree with you about the song “madhoodayaMlO …”. But, we can take that off-line!
తెలుగులో గళమాధుర్యం కోసం నేను విన్నది స్త్రీలలో -బాలసరస్వతి, ఎస్. వరలక్ష్మి, భానుమతి, శ్రీరంగం గోపాలరత్నం. మొదటి ముగ్గురి స్వరం తప్పక గుర్తించగలం. snip … snip … గాయని సుశీల లాగా. సుశీల గొంతు వేలాది వేల తెలుగు స్త్రీలకు ఉన్నది. ఏమీ ప్రత్యేకత లేదు.
డూడూ బసవన్న అంటే జానపదమై పోతుందనీ, ఛందస్సుంటే చాలు కవిత్వమని, పాట పాడినవారందరూ గాయకులేనని, అందరూ పాడటానికి అర్హులేననీ, ఎవరైనా ఏ పనైనా చేసెయ్యగలరనీ, ఇలాటి డెమొక్రాటిక్ భావనలు నాకు లేవు.
దేశికాచారి గారితో ఏకీభవిస్తున్నాను. ఇలాంటి భావజాల ప్రచార వ్యాసాలు ప్రచురించకపోవడమే మంచిది.
ఈ భావజాలాన్ని ప్రచారం చేసే చాలామంది రచయితలకు (భాస్కర్ గారిని ఇందులో చేర్చడంలేదు) వాస్తవాలతో పని లేదు. ఎదుటి పక్షం వాదనలో నిజాలను అంగీకరించే నిజాయితీ కూడా ఉండదు. భారతీయ వారసత్వాన్ని ప్రేమిచేవారందరూ వీళ్ళ దృష్టిలో ప్రగతి నిరోధకులు.
ఈ భావజాలంగాళ్లే సారంగను భ్రష్టుపట్టించారు. ఈమాటను వీళ్ళనుండి కాపాడవలసినదని మనవి.
