నాకు లైలాగారంటే ఎంతో ఇష్టము. వారి రచ్చబండ కవితలను కొన్నిటిని దాచుకొని అప్పుడప్పుడూ చదువుకొంటాను. వారికి ఎందుకు మా వ్యాసముపైన ఇలా కోపము వచ్చిందో తెలియడము లేదు. ప్రస్తుత సంచికలో ఎనిమిది వ్యాసాలలో నాలుగు వ్యాసములు పిబిఎస్ పైన వ్రాయబడినవి. అలాగే ఒకటి రెండు కవితలు కూడ. ముఖపత్రములో ముఖ్యపత్రము కూడ పిబిఎస్ పైననే. సంపాదకులు ఇది నివాళి అని చెప్పి ఉండకపోవచ్చును. అంత మాత్రాన ఒక గొప్ప గాయకుడు, కవి, అంతకంటె ఒక గొప్ప మనిషి చనిపోయిన తరువాత శ్రద్ధాంజలులు అర్పించడము సబబు కాదా? అందుకు కృషి చేయడము తప్పా? సుమారు ఒక వారము రోజులలో వందలాది పాటలను విని అందులో మాకు తోచిన అసంఖ్యాకమైన పాటలను పాఠకులకు, శ్రోతలకు అందించడము భావ్యము కాదా? I am indeed proud of this quilt (termed అతుకుల బొంత) stitched in a prompt manner by all the three of us, of course ably assisted by the editors. గతములో జీవంతులైన వారిపైన కూడ ఈమాట ప్రత్యేక సంచికలను విడుదల చేసినది. అప్పుడు కూడ కొన్ని బాణాల గురినుండి తప్పించుకోలేదు. ఈమాటను ఒక గొప్ప పత్రికగా చేయడములో లైలాగారి వంటి మంచి రచయితలకు కూడ ఒక భాగము, హక్కు ఉన్నది. After a very long time, I got the satisfaction of eating a sumptuous literary meal. Can there be a greater, more befitting and more comprehensive and touching tribute to PBS? Thanks to Murali Garu, I have come to know some more shades of the many-sided genius.
In the condolence meet held in Chennai, Smt P Suseela urged upon the TN Chief Minister for a suitable memorial for PBS in Chennai. (I am sure she will not make a similar request in AP). But for the low-key condolence meet held by an insignificant sanmaanaala company on the 4th day of his demise, no body (organization) remembered him in Hyderabad.
In this background also, this rare tribute by Murali Garu has come on time.
During my school days, I remember to have read an article in Sports and Pastime about PBS written, perhaps, by Raju Bharatan (Those days, the magazine used to allot about two pages to aesthetics). If I remember correctly, PBS’s singing was described in the very first sentence as a combination of “the sweetness of Rafi, the softness of Talat and the melody of Manna De”. Since I know more of the Tamil melodies of PBS, I am unable to quote many of his Telugu or Kannada songs (except, say, those rare tunes in Vittalacharya movies and Rajan-Nagendra, GKV and Vijaybhaskar tunes in Kannada which were mostly repeated in Telugu re-makes).
Once again my grateful regards to Murali Garu for showing us a rare, hitherto unknown-to-many, angle of PBS’s personality and also to the trio who paid the best possible tribute to PBS the singer. – V S P.

కథా కాలం కథలో అంతర్లీనంగా ఉన్నా , అనువాదం చేసేటప్పుడు, మూల రచనా కాలం కూడా తెలియ పరచడం చదువరికి వుపయోగంగా ఉంటుదని సంపాదకులకు మనవి.
తరానికి తరానికి, జీతాల వత్యాసం గమ్మత్తుగా ఉంది. నలభైలలో మూడంకెల నెల జీతం గొప్పదే, డెబ్భైలలో నాలుగంకెలైనా ఉండాల్సిందే, తొంభైలలో ఐదంకెలకు పెరిగిన జీతం, ఇప్పుడు ఆరంకెలైనా చాలడం లేదు…
