నా వ్యాసం నచ్చినందుకు సంతోషం. మేం ఫ్రాన్స్ నుంచి తిరిగి USA వచ్చి పది సంవత్సరాలు దాటుతోంది. ఈ వ్యాసంలో రాతపూర్వకంగా చెప్పిన అనుభవాల వల్ల నాకు మేలు జరిగింది. మా ఇంట్లో వాళ్ళందిరితో పంచుకున్నను ఈ వ్యాసాన్ని. ఈ వ్యాసం రాయక పోయినట్లైతే, నాకే నా అనుభవాలు గుర్తుండేవి కావు!
ప్రవాసంలో ఉన్న తెలుగువారి అనుభవాలు తెలుసుకోటం నాకు ఇష్టం. విదేశాల్లో ఉంటున్న ఈమాట పాఠకులు, రచయిత (త్రు) లు ఎక్కవ మందే ఉన్నా, ఇటువంటి రచనలు ఈమాటలో తగినంతగా చోటు చేసుకో లేదు. ఒక్క USA లోనే నాకు తెలిసి ఎంతో మందికి పంచుకోతగ్గ అనుభవాలు ఉన్నాయి. మరి వారు రచనలు ఎందుకు చెయ్యట్లేదో నాకు తెలియదు. ఈమాట పత్రిక స్థాపనలో ఇలాంటి రచనలకి వేదిక కల్పించటం ఒక ముఖ్య ఆశయం.

You always amaze me. Thanks for the info and the clarification. I did not know any musical notation as a kid but I remember this tune a lot. Later in my life, when I learnt to play the flute, I realized that this tune can be played using Sivaranjani notes.
This maybe a western musical score that fits into our Indian music.

If you are talking about AIR signature tune, it is generally accepted that its composed by Walter Kaufmann (1907-84). He, a Jew, fled Prague after Hitler’s invasion and landed in India in 1934, where he lived for 12 (some sources say 14) years. He was deeply interested in Indian classical music tradition and his book: “The Ragas of North India” is considered to be a standard reference work. Check Wikipedia for more details about him.
However his piece was not composed as a AIR signature tune but it was an extract from a sonata commissioned by Mehli Mehta, father of Zubin Mehta, who himself played it on violin.
To make things little complex in recent years the son of Thakur Balwant Singh is claiming that his father composed the tune at the invitation of the then AIR Bombay station director, Bukhari. In this regard I once asked B. Rajanikantarao gaaru, who is closely associated with Radio since late 1930s, and he said that its Kaufmann/Mehta’s work. (I should have this statement from Rajani in audio form.)
