The lunar cycle and the menstrual cycle – are both 28 day cycles. Not 29.
I would say, moon is more consistant in keeping up the regularity of its cycle, like clockwork. Woman’s menstrual cycle is not strictly 28 days, has a range and individual variation. It also starts and stops at certain times for specific reasons. You can factor in man as one who can throw a monkey wrench to mess up a woman’s menstrual cycle. Some of the consequences of which, from then on are conveniently discussed as ‘women’s issues.’ 🙂 These women’s issues may even have an impact on the outcome of present US presidential election – some journalists thought. But that’s before the Super Storm Sandy wanted to have a say in US elections. I don’t know if Sandy is rooting for Mitt or Barack , but Sandy definitely is not on people’s side. In terms of destruction of America’s wealth, Barack may rank much higher than Sandy. Time may tell.
Why these two, the L -cycle and M-cycle are designed to be 28 day cycles, I have no idea. Brahma may know. The reason I brought Brahma into this discussion, is because of a recent purchase of a Parmigiani watch. (I swear, I am not deliberately alliterating 🙂 I fell in love with the watch in the first second. There is nothing wrong in loving impetuously. The jeweler who sold me the watch reassured me that is the only way to love truly. Continuing my love story, if I may, this smashing swiss watch which is called – Kalpa Donna – has an amaranth dial and the numerals 12 and 6 are diamond studded. Spokes of light went round and round the dial, which made my silly little heart somersault.
Here I am -an Indian by birth, and I was asking the jeweler/watch seller, a non-Indian, for the meaning of word ‘Kalpa.’ I knew the meaning of word ‘Donna’ but I could not connect Kalpa with Donna at that moment. It did not dawn on me, until I read more about Parmigiani watch makers and their ladies’ collections. What a splendid man Michel Parmigiani is. A master watch restorer, turned into a master watchmaker. His first collections came out in the year 1996. He threw away the word “Forma” he gave originally to a line of his watches and renamed the line as ‘Kalpa.’ So befitting for a man who is enthralled by ‘time,’ ‘creation,’ ‘repair’ and ‘aesthetics’ as well.
Kalpa, I understand is a Sanskrit word. Kalpa is a day in Brahma’s time -which amounts to 4,320 million years in human time.
Let me not wild-guess about the possible length of menstrual cycle of Goddess Sarasvathi – the Donna of Brahma. Gods being more impetuous than me, in their actions, do I want to incur their wrath? 🙂

మా నాన్న గారు కరీంనగర్ లొ విశ్వనాధ వారి కాలేజీలో ఆంగ్ల ఉపన్యాసకులుగా పనిచేస్తున్నప్పుడు నేను హైదరాబాద్ లొ ఆంగ్లంలో పోస్ట్ గ్రాడ్యుయేషన్ చేస్తున్నాను, మధ్యలో అమ్మ, నాన్న గార్ల కోసం కరీంనగర్ వెళ్లి వస్తూ ఉండేప్పుడు ఒక రెండు సార్లు గౌతమ రావు గారింటికి నాన్న గారితో కలిసి వెళ్లి గౌతమ రావు గారి పద్య పఠనం వినడం ఒక గొప్ప అదృష్టం! గౌతమ రావు గారిని అభిమానించే అనేకులలో నాన్నగారు ఒకరు, నేను కూడా! గౌతమ రావు గారి మరణ వార్త విని బాధ పడ్డాము, కొద్దిసేపు ఆ సంఘటనలను గుర్తు చేసుకున్నాము నేను, మా నాన్న గారు! ఆ సందర్భంగా నేను వేసిన ఒక దృశ్యాన్ని ఇక్కడ ఇస్తున్నాను..
