మానస సమీక్ష సర్వ సమగ్రంగా ఉంది. కవిత్వాన్ని అనుభవించి పలవరిస్తే తప్ప ఇటువంటి సమీక్ష రాదు. లోతైన పరిశీలన అందరికీ సాధ్యం కాదు. “‘ఏదో ఒక’ అనడం లేదిక్కడ కవి, ‘ఒకేఒక’ అంటున్నాడు” అన్న వాక్యం మానస సూక్ష్మబుద్దిని పరిచయం చేస్తుంది. ఇప్పటి కవులు ఆత్మ వ్యామోహ పీడితులు కాకుండా కనీసం అప్పుడప్పుడు ఇతరుల కవిత్వాన్ని చదివి తమకు తోచిన నాలుగు వాక్యాలు నిర్భయంగా రాస్తే అందరికీ మంచిది.
సమీక్షల విలువ తెలియని జాతికి విముక్తి లేదు. సంపాదకులు కూడా శ్రద్ధ వహించి చక్కని పుస్తకాలపై నలుగురితో సమీక్షలు చేయించాలి. సమీక్ష ఉమ్మడి బాధ్యత-అందరూ తమ తమ బాధ్యతలను తలకెత్తుకోవాలి, అప్పడు మంచి సమీక్షలు చదివే వారు, వాటి స్వారస్యాన్ని గ్రహించేవారు క్రమేణా పెరుగుతారు. కవులు, రచయితలూ, విమర్శకులు తాము రాసిందే గొప్ప అనుకునే భ్రమలనుండి బయటపడగల ఒక ఆరోగ్యకరమైన వాతావరణం ఏర్పడుతుంది. సాహిత్యకాననంలో విమర్శకుడు పులిలాంటి వాడు. భారతం చెప్పినట్లు పులి అడవికి రక్ష. అడవికి పులి రక్ష. అదీ సంగతి.

కనిపించే విషయాల గురించే చదివానిప్పటి వరకూ. ఈ ప్రయత్నం బాగుంది. అంకుశం – నిజం. ఏ కొత్త విశేషమూ లేకపోయినా కొన్ని పాత చిత్రాలు ఎందుకు బాగుంటాయో అర్థమైంది. టోన్ విషయంలో దర్శకుని ప్రతిభయే కారణమని. వరుసశ్రేణి కథలు (సిరీస్) ప్రేక్షకులకు నచ్చడంలో కూడా దీని పాత్రే ఉందేమో.

Review is good. Quoted lines are beautiful. It is very very difficult to write subtle poetry rather than stuffing lines with raw Emotions, I know. This book seems to contain subtle poetry.
I have read the translation carefully and the relevant comments. I am not privy to the original preface or the afterword for the novellas, and as such I could not comment on the translation. There might have been a couple of places where the translator/editors might have missed, and that need not create a big debate. (We seem to get lost with a word or two in all our comments.)
I have a different question.
What is the motivation to translate the preface of a book that is going to be published in 2018?
If there is a secret and sacred reason, I would not dwell on it any further.
If I were to learn and understand something about the novellas, I must admit that it is impossible to do so by reading the translation of the preface alone. At this point I have to agree with Kompella Bhaskar.
It is my experience that Velcheru Narayana Rao usually writes his ‘thesis’ in the Afterword. In almost all his translations thus far, it is the Afterword that enlightens the reader and makes the reader think. Sometimes, he postulates controversial views, usually that run contrary to the existing run-of the mill-type. That makes his afterwords worth reading, even if one disagrees.
I am aware of the editor’s note that the translation of the Afterword would be published in the forthcoming issue. But, that still does not answer my primary question.
I repeat. What is the motivation to translate the preface and afterword of a book primarily intended for the English-reading or the Western audiences?
Finally, if it makes any sense, please re-publish an article entitled “ Horse –Headed Gods and White-Skinned Men: A Second Look at Viswanatha Satyanarayana’s HA HA HU HU written by Velcheru Narayana Rao in the Journal of South Asian Literature (1981), which would give quite a load of information about one of the novellas that the Penguins are scheduled to publish.
