Ramakrishna Pillamarri

INTRO -- by Ari Sitaraamayya

Among the people who post on SCIT, Ramakrishna Pillalamarri stands out as the most avid lover of Telugu poetry. Not surprisingly, he has a deep knowledge of Telugu and Sanskrit poetic meters, and enjoys good poetry as evident from his analysis of some songs used in Kuchipudi dance dramas. Besides poetry, Ramakrishna is very fond of Kuchipudi dances. He and his family probably attend every Kuchipudi dance program within 500 miles of Peda Utakapaadu (greater Washington DC). Unlike Poetry enthusiasts who for the most part deal with serious subjects, Ramakrishna is a jovial person and a humorist. This can be seen in his "Adollamandi" and "Paila Paila Paccishu". When you read through his writings, you will find that Ramakrishna never misses a chance to introduce humor into any subject no matter how serious or classical. And what does he think of the people posting on SCIT: he says,"Vaani nathudu kopaginchite, chaalamandini veliveshu".

Ramakrishna grew up in that city of cities - Secunderabad. He remembers the city in great detail in "Secunderabaad abaad rahe" and has a sharp ear for the nuances of Telangana Telugu. Don't get him wrong, his middle name is very long. It is,"Nenu mulkinaite mikenduku pareshan".

There is more to Ramakrishna than can be discerned from his cyberspace writings. He served as the secretary of The Greater Washington Telugu Cultural Society and published a newsletter called Vartha Vahini. His love for Poetry and humor were seen unmistakably in every issue of Vartha Vahini while he published it. Ramakrishna also helped with the publication of the magazine section of TANA Patrika during 1991-1993.

Regular readers of SCIT know that Ramakrishna never gets into arguments and never engages in one-upmanship. He is a true scholar, humorist and gentleman. Enjoy his cyberspace writings but do read his works in print whenever you get a chance.

Sitaramayya Ari.
