સૌંદર્યલહરિ ૩૧ - ૪૧ (આનંદલહરિ)

ચતુઃ ષષ્ટ્યા તંત્રૈઃ સકલમતિસંધાય ભુવનં
સ્થિતસ્તત્તત્ સિદ્ધિ પ્રસવ પરતંત્રૈઃ પશુપતિઃ ,
પુનસ્ત્વન્નિર્બંધાદખિલ પુરુષાર્થૈક ઘટના
સ્વતંત્રં તે તંત્રં ક્ષિતિતલમવાતીતરદિદમ્ . ૩૧ .

ચતુઃ ષષ્ટ્યા તંત્રૈઃ - with the sixty four spiritual disciplines (which do not follow the Vedic path and aim at Artha and Kama only)
સકલં - all
અતિસંધાય - having deceived
ભુવનં - the world
સ્થિતઃ - desisted
તત્ તત્ - that, that (to each individually)
સિદ્ધિ પ્રસવ - capable of generating a result
પર તંત્રૈઃ - restricted to
પશુપતિઃ - Pasupati (Siva)
પુનઃ - but
ત્વત્ નિર્બંધાત્ - importuned by you
અખિલ પુરુષાર્થ - all the principal objects of life (Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha)
એક ઘટના - brings together as one
સ્વતંત્રં - independently
તે તંત્રં - your spiritual discipline (the SriVidya expounded in the Subhagamapancakam, following the Vedic path and aiming at Moksha)
ક્ષિતિતલં - the surface of the earth
અવાતીતરત્ - caused to descend
ઇદમ્ - this

Pasupati desisted, having deceived all the world, with the sixty four spiritual disciplines, which are capable of generating a result, restricted to each individually. But, importuned by you, he caused this, your spiritual discipline which independently brings together as one, all the principal objects of human life, to descend to the surface of the earth.

શિવઃ શક્તિઃ કામઃ ક્ષિતિરથ રવિઃ શીતકિરણઃ
સ્મરો હંસઃ શક્રસ્તદનુ ચ પરા માર હરયઃ ,
અમી હૃલ્લેખાભિસ્તિસૃભિરવસાનેષુ ઘટિતા
ભજંતે વર્ણાસ્તે તવ જનનિ નામાવયવતામ્ . ૩૨ .

શિવઃ - the word Siva standing for the syllable `ka'
શક્તિઃ - the word Sakti standing for the syllable `e'
કામઃ - the word Kama (Cupid) standing for the syllable `i'
ક્ષિતિઃ - the word Kshiti (Earth) standing for the syllable `la'
અથઃ - then
રવિઃ - the word Ravi (Sun) standing for the syllable `ha'
શીતકિરણઃ - the word Sitakirana (Moon) standing for the syllable `sa'
સ્મરઃ - the word Smara (Cupid) standing for the syllable `ka'
હંસઃ - the word Hamsa standing for the syllable `ha'
શક્રઃ - the word Shakra (Indra) standing for the syllable `la'
તત્ અનુ ચ - and following that
પરા - the word Paraa standing for the syllable `sa'
મારઃ - the word Maara (Cupid) standing for the syllable `ka'
હરયઃ - the word Hari standing for the syllable `la'
અમી - these
હૃલ્લેખાભિઃ તિસૃભિઃ - with the three Hrimkaras
અવસાણેષુ ઘટિતાઃ - joined at the end
ભજંતે - they become
વર્ણાઃ તે - your syllables
તવ જનનિ - your Oh Mother! (Sakti)
નામ અવયવતાં - parts of (your) name

Siva, Sakti, Kama, Kshiti (the words standing for the syllables `ka', `e', `i', `la'), then Ravi, Sitakirana, Smara, Hamsa, Sakra (the words standing for the syllables `ha', `sa', `ka', `ha', `la'), and following that Paraa, Maara, Hari (the words standing for the syllables `sa', `ka', `la'). Oh Mother! with the three Hrimkaras joined to the ends of these your syllables, they become parts of your name (the fifteen syllabled mantra with the sixteenth secret syllable `Srim' becomes the SriVidya mantra)
(The SriVidya containing the syllable `Sri' and the most
sacred mantra for worship of Sakti.

`Sri', and the time of it's incident the most sacred for worship of Siva).

સ્મરં યોનિં લક્ષ્મીં ત્રિતયમિદમાદૌ તવ મનો
ર્નિધાયૈકે નિત્યે નિરવધિ મહાભોગ રસિકાઃ ,
ભજંતિ ત્વાં ચિંતામણિ ગુણનિબદ્ધાક્ષ વલયાઃ
શિવાગ્નૌ જુહ્વંતઃ સુરભિઘૃત ધારાહુતિ શતૈઃ . ૩૩ .

સ્મરં - the word Smara (Cupid) standing for the syllable `klim'
યોનિં - the word Yoni standing for the syllable `hrim'
લક્ષ્મીં - the word Lakshmi standing for the syllable `Srim'
ત્રિતયં ઇદં - these three
આદૌ - in the beginning
તવ મનોઃ નિધાય - having placed in your mantra
એકે - a few
નિત્યે - Oh Eternal one! (Sakti)
નિરવધિ - endless
મહાભોગ - great sacrifice (food offered to God)
રસિકાઃ - connoiseurs
ભજંતિ ત્વાં - they worship you
ચિંતામણિ - the wish yeilding gem
ગુણ નિબદ્ધ અક્ષ વલયાઃ - the circles of the rosary tied by thread
શિવાગ્નૌ - in the fire of Sivaa (Sakti)
જુહ્વંતઃ - pouring oblations into the sacrificial fire
સુરભિ ઘૃત - fragrant clarified butter
ધારા - stream
આહુતિ શતૈઃ - with hundreds of oblations

Having placed these three : Smara, Yoni, Lakshmi (standing for the syllables `klim', `hrim' and `srim') in the beginning of your mantra, Oh Eternal one !, a few conoisseurs of endless great sacrifice worship you with the circles of the rosary with Cintamani gems tied by thread (and) by pouring oblations into the fire of Sivaa, with hundreds of oblations of fragrant streams of clarified butter.
(The devotees of Sakti perform endless sacrifice.

શરીરં ત્વં શંભોઃ શશિ મિહિર વક્ષોરુહ યુગં
તવાત્માનં મન્યે ભગવતિ નવાત્માનમનઘમ્ ,
અતઃ શેષઃ શેષીત્યયમુભય સાધારણતયા
સ્થિતઃ સંબંધો વાં સમરસ પરાનંદપરયોઃ . ૩૪ .

શરીરં - the body
ત્વં - you (Sakti as Paraa at the time of Creation)
શંભોઃ - of Sambhu (Siva as Parananda at the time of Creation)
શશિ મિહિર - moon, sun
વક્ષો રુહ - the bosom
યુગં - endowed with
તવ આત્માનં - your body
મન્યે - I consider
ભગવતિ - Oh Bhagavati! (Oh glorious one!) (Sakti)
નવ આત્માનં - one having nine parts (Kala, Kula,Naman, Jnana
Citta, Nada, Bindu, Kalaa and Jiva) (Siva)
અનઘં - sinless
અતઃ - therefore
શેષઃ શેષી - the Accessory - Principal
ઇતિ - of the nature of
અયં - this
ઉભય સાધારણતયા - being common to both
સ્થિતઃ - exists
સંબંધઃ - relationship
વાં - in you (two)
સમરસ - who are equipoised
પરાનંદ - Parananda (transcendent bliss or Siva)
પરયોઃ - Paraa (conciousness or Sakti)

Oh Bhagavati! you are the body of Sambhu, endowed with the sun - moon for the bosom. (Sakti is Accessory to Siva the Principal at the time of dissolution). I consider the sinless one with nine parts (Siva) as your body. (Siva is Accessory to Sakti the Principal at the time of creation). Therefore, this relationship of the nature of Accessory - Principal exists being common to both, who are Parananda and Paraa equipoised.
Note : This is the view of the Purvakaulas : the relative
dominance of Sakti.
(At the time of dissolution Siva is the Principal and
Sakti is the Accessory and vice versa at creation.

dissolution).

મનસ્ત્વં વ્યોમ ત્વં મરુદસિ મરુત્સારથિરસિ
ત્વમાપસ્ત્વં ભૂમિસ્ત્વયિ પરિણતાયાં ન હિ પરમ્ ,
ત્વમેવ સ્વાત્માનં પરિણમયિતું વિશ્વ વપુષા
ચિદાનંદાકારં શિવયુવતિ ભાવેન બિભૃષે . ૩૫ .

મનઃ ત્વં - you are the mind (element in the Angya cakra)
વ્યોમ ત્વં - you are the space (element in the Vishuddhi cakra)
મરુત્ અસિ - you are the air (element in the Anahata cakra)
મરુત્ સારથિઃ અસિ - you are the fire (element in the Svadhishtana cakra)
ત્વં આપઃ - you are the water (element in the Manipura cakra)
ત્વં ભૂમિઃ - you are the earth (element in the Muladhara cakra)
ત્વયિ પરિણયતાં - when you have trasformed (thus)
ન હિ પરમ્ - there is nothing else indeed
ત્વં એવ - you yourself
સ્વ આત્માનં - own self
પરિણમયિતું - to transform
વિશ્વ વપુષા - the universe
ચિત્ આનંદ આકારં - the form of conciousness and bliss (Cit Sakti and Ananda Bhairava or the form of Brahman preceeding creation)
શિવયુવતિ - Oh wife of Siva! (Sakti)
ભાવેન - by intention
બિભૃષે - you bear

You are mind, you are space, you are air, you are fire, you are water (and) you are earth. When you have transformed (thus), there is nothing else indeed. You yourself to transform your own self into the universe, bear the form of conciousness - bliss by intention, Oh wife of Siva!

Note : This is the view of the Uttarakaulas : the
absolute dominance of Sakti.
(Sakti is the micro and macrocosmic universe.
Cf SVL, verse 35 : Siva is all pervasive, within and
without).

તવાજ્ઞાચક્રસ્થં તપન શશિ કોટિ દ્યુતિધરં
પરં શંભું વંદે પરિમિલિત પાર્શ્વં પરચિતા ,
યમારાધ્યન્ ભક્ત્યા રવિ શશિ શુચીનામવિષયે
નિરાલોકેઽલોકે નિવસતિ હિ ભાલોક ભુવને . ૩૬ .

તવ - your
આજ્ઞાચક્રસ્થં - who is present in the Angya cakra (of the devotee or alternatively the four Siva cakras in the internal Sricakra in between the brows)
તપન શશિ કોટિ - ten million suns and moons
દ્યુતિ ધરં - who bears the lustre of
પરં શંભું - Sambhu called Para (Supreme bliss, Siva)
વંદે - I salute
પરિમિલિત પાર્શ્વંં - who is touched on both sides
પરચિતા - by Paraa Cit (Supreme conciousness, Sakti)
યં આરાધ્યન્ - worshipping whom (Para Sambhu)
ભક્ત્યા - with devotion
રવિ શશિ શુચીનાં અવિષયે - that is beyond the sun, moon and fire
નિરાલોકે - in the invisible
અલોકે - unlike the (visible) world
નિવસતિ હિ - he indeed lives
ભાલોક ભુવને - in the luminous plane (the Sahasrara cakra)

I salute the Para Sambhu who is present in your Angya cakra, who bears the lustre of ten million suns and moons, (and) who is touched on both sides by Paraa Cit. He, worshipping whom (Para Sambhu) with devotion, certainly lives in the luminous plane, that is beyond the sun, moon and fire, which is invisible and unlike the (visible) world.
Note : The arrangement of the verses 36 - 41 is according
to the order of origin of the five elements, one from the other : mind, space, air, fire, water and earth and corresponds to the respective cakras mentioned in verses 36 - 41.
(The devotee worships Siva and Sakti in the Sricakra
within the body.

વિશુદ્ધૌ તે શુદ્ધસ્ફટિક વિશદં વ્યોમ જનકમ્
શિવં સેવે દેવીમપિ શિવસમાન વ્યવસિતામ્ ,
યયોઃ કાંત્યા યાંત્યાઃ શશિકિરણ સારૂપ્ય સરણેઃ
વિધૂતાંતર્ધ્વાંતા વિલસતિ ચકોરીવ જગતી . ૩૭ .

વિશુદ્ધૌ તે - in your Vishuddhi cakra
શુદ્ધ સ્ફટિક - flawless crystal
વિશદં - pure
વ્યોમ જનકમ્ - the originator of the space element
શિવં સેવે - I worship Siva
દેવીં અપિ - along with Devi (Sakti)
શિવ સમાન વ્યવસિતાં - whose functions are equal to Siva
યયોઃ કાંત્યાઃ - whose (Siva and Sakti) lustre
યાંત્યાઃ - emerging
શશિ કિરણ - moon beams
સારૂપ્ય સરણેઃ - arranged similar to
વિધૂત - dispelled
અંતઃ ધ્વાંતા - inner darkness
વિલસતિ - shines
ચકોરી ઇવ - like the Cakora bird (a mythological bird which subsists on moon beams, and hence rejoices, as per poetic convention)
જગતી - the worlds (heaven, earth and the nether worlds)

I worship Siva, in your Vishuddhi cakra, who is pure as flawless crystal, who is the originator of the space element, along with Devi, whose functions are equal to Siva; by whose emerging lustre arranged similar to moon beams, the worlds shine like the Cakora bird, with the inner darkness dispelled.
(The devotee worshipping Siva and Sakti, rejoices with
his ignorance dispelled.
Cf SVL, verse 37 : The wise devotees of Siva obtain the
joy of Siva who is with Uma).

સમુન્મીલત્ સંવિત્કમલ મકરંદૈક રસિકં
ભજે હંસદ્વંદ્વં કિમપિ મહતાં માનસચરમ્ ,
યદાલાપાદષ્ટાશ ગુણિત વિદ્યા પરિણતિઃ
યદાદત્તે દોષાદ્ ગુણમખિલમદ્ભ્યઃ પય ઇવ . ૩૮ .

સમુન્મીલત્ - fully bloomed
સંવિત્ કમલં - lotus of knowledge
મકરંદઃ એક રસિકં - which relish only the honey
ભજે - I adore
હંસ દ્વંદ્વં - the pair of swans, Ham (Siva) and Sa (Sakti)
કિં અપિ - which are indescribable
મહતાં - of great men
માનસ ચરં - which move in the Manasa lake of the heart (swans permanently reside in the Manasa lake as per poetic convention)
યત્ આલાપાત્ - from whose conversation
અષ્ટાદશ ગુણિત - enumerated as eighteen (Vedas, Vedangas etc)
વિદ્યાઃ - systems of knowledge
પરિણતિઃ - developed
યત્ આદત્તે - which accept
દોષાત્ - from sin
ગુણં અખિલં - all virtue
અદ્ભ્યઃ પય ઇવ - like milk from water (as per poetic convention swans can seperate milk from water)

I adore the indescribable pair of swans (Siva and Sakti), which relish only the honey of the fully bloomed lotus of knowledge, which move in the Manasa lake of the hearts of great men, from whose conversation the systems of knowledge enumerated as eighteen developed (and) which accept all virtue from sin, like (seperating) milk from water.
(Siva and Sakti are in the Manasa lake of the heart.

of the heart).

તવ સ્વાધિષ્ઠાને હુતવહમધિષ્ઠાય નિરતં
તમીડે સંવર્તં જનનિ મહતીં તાં ચ સમયામ્ ,
યદાલોકે લોકાન્ દહતિ મહતિ ક્રોધ કલિતે
દયાર્દ્રા યા દૃષ્ટિઃ શિશિરમુપચારં રચયતિ . ૩૯ .

તવ સ્વાધિષ્ઠાને - in your Svadhishthana cakra
તવહં - the fire element
અધિષ્ઠાય - having stationed
નિરતં - uninterruptedly
તં ઈડે - I praise
સંવર્તં - fire of dissolution (Siva as Rudra, the lord of dissolution or Sakti conceived as the fire of dissolution)
જનનિ - Oh Mother! (Sakti)
મહતીં તાં ચ સમયાં - and that great Samayaa (Sakti)
યત્ આલોકે - the sight of which (the fire)
લોકાન્ દહતિ - burns the worlds
મહતિ - great
ક્રોધ કલિતે - impelled by anger (of Rudra)
દયા આર્દ્રા - tender with compassion
યા દૃષ્ટિઃ - that look
શિશિરં ઉપચારં - cooling remedy
રચયતિ - effects

Oh Mother! having stationed the fire element in your Svadhishthana cakra, I praise uninterruptedly that fire of dissolution (Siva as Rudra) and that great Samayaa. The sight of which, (the fire) impelled by the great anger (of Rudra) burns the worlds, (while) that look (of your's), tender with compassion effects a cooling remedy.
(Sakti's look effects a cooling remedy.

of knowledge - bliss to fructify).

તટિત્વંતં શક્ત્યા તિમિર પરિપંથિ સ્ફુરણયા

તવ શ્યામં મેઘં કમપિ મણિપૂરૈક શરણં
નિષેવે વર્ષંતં હરમિહિર તપ્તં ત્રિભુવનમ્ . ૪૦ .

તટિત્વંતં - as lightning
શક્ત્યા - with Sakti
તિમિર પરિપંથિ - foe of darkness
રણયા - flashing
રન્ - shining
નાના રત્ન આભરણ - variegated gem studded ornaments
પરિણદ્ધ - formed
ઇંદ્ર ધનુષં - rainbow
તવ - your
શ્યામં મેઘં - dark cloud
કં અપિ - indescribable
મણિપૂર - the Manipura cakra
એક શરણં - sole resort
નિષેવે - I worship
વર્ષંતં - which showers
હર મિહિરઃ - the fire of dissolution
તપ્તં ત્રિભુવનં - the burnt three worlds (heaven, earth and nether worlds)

I worship that indescribable dark cloud which showers on the three worlds burnt by the fire of dissolution, which has your Manipura cakra as the sole resort, with Sakti as lightning flashing as the foe of darkness, (and) with a rainbow formed by (your) shining variegated gem studded ornaments.
(The rain water of Sakti as the cloud cools the burnt worlds.

causes the crop of devotion to fructify).

તવાધારે મૂલે સહ સમયયા લાસ્યપરયા
નવાત્માનં મન્યે નવરસ મહાતાંડવ નટં ,
ઉભાભ્યામેતાભ્યામુદય વિધિમુદ્દિશ્ય દયયા
સનાથાભ્યાં જજ્ઞે જનક જનનીમત્ જગદિદમ્ . ૪૧ .

તવ આધારે મૂલે - in your Muladhara cakra
સહ સમયયા - with Samayaa (Sakti)
લાસ્ય પરયા - intent on the Lasya dance (dance of women)
નવ આત્માનં - one having nine parts (Siva)
મન્યે - I worship
નવ રસ - the nine sentiments (of poetics)
મહા તાંડવ - the wonderful Tandava dance (dance of men)
નટં - dancing
ઉભાભ્યાં એતાભ્યાં - in these two
ઉદય વિધિં ઉદ્દિશ્ય - having creation as the object
દયયા સનાથાભ્યાં - who are endowed with compassion
જજ્ઞે - acquired
જનક જનનીમત્ - a father and mother
જગત્ ઇદમ્ - this world

In your Muladhara cakra, I worship Samayaa (Sakti) intent on the Lasya dance, with Navatman (Siva) dancing the wonderful Tandava dance (with it's) nine sentiments. This world has acquired a father and mother in these two, having creation as the object, (and) who are endowed with compassion.
(Worship of Samayaa, the name of Sakti assigned by the
Samayacarins who worship mentally and Navatman, the name of Siva assigned by the Kaulas who worship externally.

the sense and motor organs (for external worship) engage in the worship of Siva).
