సంగీతం గురించి కనీసపు జ్ఞానం లేకపోయినా నేను రోహిణీప్రసాద్ గారి వ్యాసాలు చదవడానికి కారణం వారి నిరాడంబర భాషా, శైలీ, క్లిష్టమైన విషయాలను విడమరచి సులభంగా చెప్పే నేర్పూ.
నేను కాలేజీలో చదువుకునే రోజుల్లో ఇతర రాష్ట్రాలకన్నా తెలుగు వాళ్ళు చాలా ఎక్కువగా వున్నా కూడా సంగీతంలో ప్రవేశం మనవాళ్ళకంటే వేరే రాష్ట్రాలవాళ్ళకే ఎక్కువున్నట్లనిపించేది. ముఖ్యంగా మనప్రక్కవాళ్ళే అయిన తమిళయన్లలో, ప్రతివాళ్ళూ గాత్రమో వాయిద్యమో చిన్నప్పుడే నేర్చుకునేవాళ్ళని విన్నాను. మనవాళ్ళకి ట్యూషన్లు, కోచింగ్లతో సంగీతానికి సమయం మిగులుతున్నట్లు లేదు. (పల్లెటూళ్ళలో, చిన్న పట్టణాలలో, రెండు మూడేళ్ళకోసారి వెళ్ళి పదిరోజులుండి చూసి ఏర్పరచుకున్న అభిప్రాయమిది; వాస్తవం కాకపోవచ్చు.)
చిన్నప్పుడే, 3-7 ఏళ్ళ మధ్య ప్రతిబిడ్డకూ ఏదో ఒక కళమీద గురి కుదురుతుందనీ, ఆ అభినివేశం పెద్దయ్యాక ఏర్పడటం దాదాపు అసంభవమనీ, చిన్నప్పుడే తగిన వాతావరణం కలిగించాల్సిన బాధ్యత పెద్దవాళ్ళకుందనీ కొకు రాశాడు. పాటల్లోపడితే చదువులు పాడవుతాయని తల్లిదండ్రులకి సహజమైన భయం వుండొచ్చుగాని, దానికి కాస్త మందలింపు సరిపోవచ్చు:
“మా ప్రసాద్ సితార్ తో చదువు పాడు చేసుకోవటం నాకంతగా ఇష్టం లేదు. వాడు పరీక్షలప్పుడు కూడా relax కావటానికి ఓ అరగంట వాయించుకుంటే నేను అభ్యంతరం చెప్పను. కాని social functions లో వాయిస్తే ఇక mind చదువుమీదికి పోదు. ఆమధ్య వాడి స్నేహితులు చిన్న పార్టీ ఏర్పాటు చేసి వాడి చేత రెండున్నర గంటలు సితారు వాయింపించారట. అందులో వున్న ప్రమాదం వాడికీ తెలుసు. అందుకని దాని జోలికిపోక చదువుకోమని రాశాను. డిసెంబరు సెలవుల్లో నెలరోజులూ సితారే వాయిస్తాడు. summer holidays అంతా వాడికి మరోపని వుండదు. వాడికి వ్యక్తిత్వం లేకపోవటమేమిటి? సైన్సులోనూ, సంగీతంలోనూ నాకు వాడు చాలా విషయాలు చెప్పగలడు. నాకున్న వ్యసనాలు కూడా ఆరెండే. అందుచేత వాటిలో నన్ను ఇప్పటికే మించి ముందుకు వెళ్ళాడు.”

After opening the file, the screen keeps moving on, slightly different from the problem JUBV Prasad mentioned earlier. I could not stop the page to read. This does not happen with other Telugu sites I have visited.
I am also curious about unicode. I am using the Unicode, which came with Windows (called Gautami). Your Unicode seem to have a different keyboard.
I tried your link to Aksharamala, and it returned error msg.
Otherwise, the site is wonderful. I am particularly glad to see the editorial by Veluri Venkateswara Rao. Very timely appeal.
Thanks for the bold choice of the topic. In my observation, telugu writers tend to keep silent on biological matters and when someone breaks their silence, it’s the readers that maintain silence.. Your essay reminded me of “rutupavanaalu”, a story collection edited by sri KaaLeepaTnam Ramarao. There was a story named “siggu paDaalsindevaru?” that talks about the struggles of slum-dwelling women in meeting such basic needs as answering nature’s call. Two reviewers wrote lengthy reviews of the stories — seventeen of the eighteen of them, to be precise..
By the way, have you come across a book named “The good women of China”? There is this story “The women of Shouting Hill” that makes me wince everytime I think about it.
