    I see that the writer is fantastic in compiling literature from every where and making unequal efforts, which shows his inquisitiveness. I am utterly astounded. But I would want to humbly make few points and just share what I learned. If that is not appealing, you may ignore:

    Few things seen by the eye should also be verified by the supplementary aids like nose and tongue to understand and confirm the complete nature of the object. Verifier who compiles the impressions obtained from the eye as well as other sense organs is the mind (which is different than the eye which is just a tool). If we see a rose you can’t ascertain that everything in rose colour is a true flower.

    Jyothisha is like an eye to the one who wants to ‘see’ he world and learn about it. It only gives partial information. There are some other keys to unlock the wisdom. Indians did not name the subject as ‘Graha Sastra’, they named it ‘Jyothisha’. I am sure we all very well know the meaning of that name = ‘Light to the eye’. Astrology is the name given by Westerners who merely believe in material thinking that planets and their magnetic fields influence, hence their propounded theories get boomeranged.

    Veda has six angas and Jyothisha is just one of them, like an eye to human beings. There is also ‘adhyatma jyothisha’, which is purely the study of self to realize the higher self. Infact Veda tells that this is the correct use of Jyothisha and not predictions. Predictions work only for people at certain maturity levels.

    Someone in the olden days tried to use Sabdha to understand everything and used his arrows to kill an elephant. He killed Sravana Kumara by mistake. His name was Dasaratha. So my point is even great people who ignore ‘completeness’ commit mistakes.

    Trying to prove that ‘eye’ is a reality and use statistics or something else to prove it a science is just a unrealistic passion I would say. You need to consider all other external subjects that support to provide the totality.

    By the way, the parameters to ‘determine’ things correctly are not just DOB, POB and TOB (date, place, time of birth). These are the 3 main parameters when you can ignore the others for generalization purposes. There are few other important parameters like:

    1. who are the parents and what are the characteristics of the parents (species, maturity levels, intelligence etc.)

    2. where in the spiritual evolution is the current subject
    Even many Jyothisha teachers (who know all, sadgurus) wont teach these until the student reaches that level of maturity to research in to them and serve all by that.

    If the subject of a chart is in preliminary states where he identifies himself as personality (sex, position, species, personal belongings, rich/poor, young/old etc.) then he is in level One. Ascendant (and the bhavas) determines things for such a person. Such charts should be interpreted separately. All the murderers you talked about are actually below this level or at most at this level. So wherever the Saturn and mars are in the chart it does not matter. The rest of the planets become very week and only those two planets will work in the whole chart till he eats the fruit of his actions and learns.

    If the subjects finds his consciousness submerged in his intellect, then moon mostly influences the chart and brings forth the events in life. Such charts should be interpreted in a different way. Those who identify themselves with their self (self confident individual) such people’s chart should be interpreted separately. Even from there. if the person has achieved an elevated state of consciousness then the chart should be interpreted separately. Sometimes even the planetary positions should be read in different houses due to that. What I discussed here is just 3 broad cases where as a person could be in a spectrum of states of consciousness accordingly to which we need to understand the totality and predict (here prediction is just a byproduct of the understanding but not a true purpose of the science)

    All this tells us that Jyothisha is a meta-science and not just a material science which can be automated with in the limited intellect of a computer. Even the subject of Artificial intelligence is not yet fully evolved, where can we think of automating a life science? We have not even automated human reproductive system or such ‘real’ things It needs many more ages to prove things. Any science will unveil slowly once we start using it for the benefit of others selflessly. I don’t know if you believe in it. I feel that the great efforts you are doing are because of such good causes. Person who is completely elevated will have only his sun work after some time. Once the person is living a liberated life, the cosmic sun (not the sun in the chart) will start working.
    I personally know seers who could predicted just by seeing the chart once. So the experience tells me that the science is valid, but it is just not yet proven to everyone, will take some more time which is OK. However the same seers also told that one should not rely on planets and such external entities to guide their lives, but should rely on the power of higher self (carefully used ‘higher’ so that we wont mistake it as lower ego) which you can sometimes refer to as God. You can also observe and learn these things, but you need to be able to identify where in the spectrum is every person. But this should not happen as a judgement towards others, then you will be judged. This should come out of kindness to others only when asked. All this needs grace of Guru and should be done as a service. So a jyothishka first should be a daivagnya, otherwise he will be the first one to fall in the soup, as I learnt from my guru. I am not yet at that level so there is nothing I can prove for you, but this is just an open knowledge sharing

    An in depth study of the subject, understanding of the very nature of events and their occurrence, the fundamentals of existence of events, the thin fabric of time and space that creates events and the energy that dissolves them can also be brought under study. This is possible by meditation, observation and analysis with detachment. ‘Visvam darpanasya maana nagaree tulyam, nijanthargathaam’ from dakshinamurthy stotram has much deeper meaning than we think. It says, subtly, that universe is the reflection of yourself (you when you say, putting your hand on your left side of chest on the hear, the atma – that is vaama and on the right is the dakshina, where He resides, the purusha. So in the effort of understanding the events or analysis it should be done not just with experimental neutrality, but also mental neutrality. Otherwise like Heisenberg uncertainty principle we would be effected by the act of observation. Finally, what the point is, in order to observe the accuracy of Astrology, the person should not be just an astrologer, but also a detached yogi. Astrology has mere equations that control the bigger mechanism. Its the mathematics of the robotics of the human life of the cosmic consciousness. The cosmic consciousness of the Puru-sha to be understood, the astrology is providing equations. To get to the Puru-sha we need additional tools and with those we see the grand architecture of the universe, of course one small fraction of it.
    Any way, in order to validate the truth of Astrology, we should have a camera focused on various cities in the world recording events and simultaneously superimposing current planetary positions. We need to map events to positions and evaluate the accuracy of such relation. Then we know events are conforming to the laws of planetary objects in space and the revolution. Few thoughts.     This may be a very belated post on this topic but the way you have dealt with the topic is exemplary.I am neither an astrologer nr a student of astrology but have some belief in astrology as a guiding light.As opined by you it may be possible to come closer to better predictions if all astrologers come together in some experiments as proposed by you.

    Dr. Rohiniprasad and his ilk fantasize about ‘rational’, and ‘scientific’ methods applied to each and every discipline. I have no beef with that!

    But, there are a number of disciplines in science, (soft and hard sciences) where the strict ‘scientific method’ as propounded and publicized by Aristoleons and his successors has been, of late, been proved to be a failure, if not a miserable and utter failure.

    Take for example the failures of Physics, physics as we all know as the most rational of basic sciences. It could not explain several simple new observations coming from Cosmologists, the new Astronomers, etc.

    I know what the”rationalists” would immediately jump to say: Given sufficient time, all the cosmological problems, problems raised by the contradictions in quantum theories and string theories, super string theories, etc., will be resolved! Actually, as one who has a smattering of knowledge in these fields, I have my own doubts. The so-called Scientific Method, and in particular, the scientific method adored and hugged dearly by the erstwhile ‘ Marxists’ and the fashionable Marxists of late, has been a failure.

    Of course, there is more than the erst while scientific method. Of late, a large number of scientists are seriously looking into the so-called ” non-rational explanations” of natural phenomena!

    If one sheds one’s red garb and of course the ultra-red goggles, one can see the whole spectrum of colors.

    Having said this I must give my disclaimer : I am not saying that predictive astrology has to be accepted in toto. Certain aspects can be re-discussed with open mind, without imposing some ‘worn out and failed sociological’ theories on to every aspect of human endeavor.

    After all, Marx was not sacrosanct; nor Mao was! Both were disowned by the neo-sociologists all over the world, except in India and in particular in AP who hang on to these beaten, but badly beaten theories. And, they still try to explain the un-explained and the un-explainable vagaries of nature, human behavior in particular, by clinging on to these obsolete theories.

    Finally, I should say that Sri Naga Muarli need not fall for this kind of criticism in re: his essay. After all there are 101 ways to skin a cat, and we really do not know the best way! So is the case with Modern Physics and so is with Astrology!
