    ages ago i was in an engg school and my room mate was one satyanarayana (satyam). he used to say – for those who see the panchangam there are good days and bad days and for those who do not have panchangam all are good days.

    i never forgot his words. in other words, this jyotisham is a some sort of wizadry people play on others to make $. having said that i do read my weekly predictions ;) without fail but when it comes to booking tickets, going to temples and entering new house, I do not really give a damn.

    Dear Sri Nagamurali garu:

    My doubt, if you want to call it a doubt in reference to “Scientific,” “Rational,” analyses is deeper than what you have surmised as my intent. What the rationalists have been propounding all along (the so-called dielectical materialists included in my summing up!) is questioned in its basics these days. As a matter of fact the neo-Marxists have considerably revised the hard-core marxists’ opinions on the text-book-marxist ideology.and dielectics. However, it is a different and unrelated issue. I have to raise it since one of the correspondents mentioned dielectics in passing! And, I know that it is beyond the scope of your article.

    A good discussion on what is scientific and what is non-scientific that includes the new and old ideologies would be useful in a different article.

    All I want to say is the ideas of modern science exemplified as ‘scientific,’ and ‘rational’ have been questioned and the very bases of the theories are at quandry. So, simply saying that a particular system ( may be even a belief system too) is unscientific may give a good following in the ‘elite’ readership of eemaata but that does not make it profound.

Personally I believe that Karl Popper’s Scientific Philosophy is enough to rationalize many things we encounter in day to day life. The world follows whoever argues strongly – for or against them. We do not look at the world as it is, but as we are told to. For quite sometime I have been seeing one famous personality (astrologer) in many movie and social events. None of the events he ‘foresaw’ came true, except one or two stray incidents. I asked one of his followers, “why do people still throng to have him in their midst, knowing fully well that his predictions are as accurate as just anyone else’s?” To which he replied, “He has a photogenic face; moreover, although he consults his books before giving any advice, he always tells us to ‘go-ahead, everything will be fine'”!

    I read several articles where terminally ill people, condemned by the world of medicine, become normal, with their deadly ailments simply disappearing!! Some call them miracles. Some attribute to a hidden power. Finally it’s the faith that does the magic. I request readers to ‘also read’ Paanuganti vaari Saakshi. I hope the author, in his later parts, will explain the claims of “lunar effect”: the claim that many more number of people behave “lunatic” on a full-moon day. The folk wisdom is that since the moon affects the ocean’s tides, it must be so powerful to affect the human body as well (after all, the human body is 80 percent water). I believe that even if we live in a pre-determined world, we may never be able to predict the future accurately, as long as the questions of why and how this universe came into existence and what the purpose of this creation is, remain mysterious to us.

    First of all, I am totally impressed by this article. Got up at 2.30AM and a friend sent me this link. I am pleasantly surprised. Let me introduce myself, I am a reputed astrologer who practices astrology and ‘tries’ to help people, free of charge. Have been reputed across several countries and got recognition.     1. Naagamurali garu, most interesting thing is that I know the astrologer you are talking about. I was also around 16 when I met him and I was close to him too, of course I did not join there. I went there several times and saw him predict ‘well’ and heard the eloquent sanskrit slokas.
    2. In the last twenty years I was thinking exactly on the same lines as you about THAT person in Konaseema. I clearly knew all the aspects of HIS astrology. I am really thrilled to see someone else agree with my thinking.
    3. I was totally inspired by him, irrespective of his flaws, astrology has drawn tremendous interest. I started watching closely and he never taught any secrets of his Nadi, but I got the essence of his success and as we know its Prasna blended at times with KP.
    4. I went further and inspired more by meeting Dr.Shrimali and found my own discoveries and techniques. Unfortunately, the vichitra vyakti you mentioned once in a while I met but was unhappy to see him become addicted to drinking and talking insane with ego etc. The thankfulness has been there for inspiring me into this study which I enjoy the most. He indeed got some secrets of nature and knows certainly the impacts of Shakuna, the science of omens. As you said the Nadis are totally false. The difference is that the Nadis I saw have Sandhya vandanam instead of Namakam in my case. We went through same experiences. Happy to know someone else saw those.
    5. The indepth study of the subject reveals existence of an omnipresent energy beyond our general understanding yet which signs quietly into this universe.
